For Mentors

As a key program recommended by the IAU, the “Starry Sky Check-in Challenge” aims to unlock the educational and economic potential of remote areas by leveraging the spectacular beauty of their starry skies. From the majestic Milky Way to twinkling constellations, we invite all astronomy enthusiasts to participate in this meaningful initiative. The program offers the opportunity to become a “Star Mentor,” where participants receive professional training to share astronomy knowledge and support regions rich in celestial resources but lacking in educational infrastructure.

The starry sky check-in challenge offers each participant a hands-on opportunity to experience the world of astronomy. Mentors will not only receive a certificate of practice from the IAU but will also gain the chance to assess local needs through real-world projects, learn how to protect and utilize astronomical resources, and contribute to local economic development through astronomy. Guided by experts, mentors will explore innovative approaches to leveraging astronomy as a tool for boosting economic growth.

By combining service learning and project-based learning, Star Mentors will engage in regions rich in astronomical resources, such as Lenghu Lake in Qinghai, conducting in-depth research on the actual needs of local communities. While enhancing their own knowledge and skills, the mentors will harness the allure of astronomy to promote local tourism and economic growth,

This program goes beyond knowledge dissemination, focusing on integrating science and economics to create tangible benefits for local communities. We invite you to join the “Starry Sky Check-in Challenge” and work together to transform the the night sky into a catalyst for development. Becoming a Star Mentor is not only an opportunity to deepen your understanding of astronomy, but also a practical way to support progress.

Every mentor’s effort will bring new opportunities to economically disadvantaged regions, using astronomy to illuminate both the night sky and the future of more people.Join us at Lenghu, Qinghai, to enrich your mind with the beauty of the stars and brighten your future through the light of astronomy!
